Before long, Greg and Maaike started to notice something extraordinary. Day after day, they would watch guests return from their adventures, and a pattern quickly emerged. There were lots of intense facial expressions, full body reenactments…and inadequate attempts to describe the experience and its meaning. The fact of the matter is, days up here defy description. Words often don’t quite cut it. Day after day, the best our guests tend to come up with is this: “Best Day Ever!”. Our team heard it used so many times, we eventually realized: that’s exactly what we do. We’re in the business of facilitating people’s best days ever. That’s our purpose, and our passion. What could be better than that?
When Greg and Maaike began exploring what a potential sale of the business could look like, they were overwhelmed with the number of interested parties from ultra high net worth individuals to large corporations. However, there was one interested party that was different from the rest: Heli. When co-founders Andy Culp and Brock Strasbourger got wind of the opportunity to buy Great Canadian Heli-Skiing (“GCHS”), they jumped all over it and flew up to Golden to meet with the Porters. Heli’s presence in the global heli-skiing market along with Andy and Brock’s energy and passion were impossible to ignore. They were entrusted with the future of the operation and worked closely with Greg and Maaike to structure and close the acquisition before the beginning of the 2022/23 season. The Heli team is committed to championing the legacy of GCHS with all existing staff, guides, and management for years to come.
What makes for a #BestDayEver?
The way we see it, it’s all about thinking small.
Big mountainous landscapes? Of course. Big adventures? Absolutely. But big groups? Not here. In 1988, Great Canadian Heli Skiing was built on a small group promise—just four skiers and a guide. Since the beginning, we’ve sought to recapture the sense of adventure that’s been lost as operations have raced to get bigger. Our goal has never been to be the biggest. It’s to be the best. And to be the best, we chose to stay small.
Why small groups?
Lots of reasons.
Small groups maximize safety and make for a more personal experience. They make it easier to match guest expectations and skill levels, so you don’t end up feeling rushed by more advanced skiers or held back by those who like to take it a little slower. They mean less waiting and more skiing. We were the first heli-skiing operation to offer unlimited vertical, and the best way to take full advantage is to be smaller, quicker and more nimble. Quite simply, our small groups mean more time doing what you love, with the people who matter most.

We’re also the only heli-skiing operator to offer hyper-personalized, flexible packages—so you can do two days, or four days, or seven, or eleven. We don’t require your adventures to fit neatly into one-week increments. What matters to us is that you get to have them.
