The solution is simple: non-skiers are welcome at Great Canadian Heli-Skiing, and we have plenty for these guests to do while heli-skiers are out flying. And there’s so much time where your party is together to share in the moment, at the lodge, that alone makes it worth non-skiers being part of the experience.
Imagine this. Your crew—whether it’s your family, your partner, or your best friends—shares a beautiful mountain morning together. You sip coffee in the lodge and take stock of the snow that’s fallen the night before, or is still falling in dreamy flakes outside our cozy windows. Or perhaps you watch the sunrise together on a bluebird dawn from the comfort of your cabin or one of our luxe lodge rooms. You share breakfast to start the day. And then non-skiing guests walk out to our patio to wave goodbye to the helicopter as it lifts skiers off for a day of taking turns.
And then, lovely non-skiing guest, our plush lodge, now quiet, is all yours. Perhaps you’d like another cup of coffee by the fire. Then, if you’d like some fresh air, you’re welcome to take out a pair of our snowshoes and wander the trails around the lodge to take in the bladed vistas of the Purcells. You’ll come back in to warm up over a hot lunch in the dining room, or maybe even an outdoor lunch on the deck by the fire with a mountain backdrop. Your afternoon might consist of a massage, or maybe even a nap.
Or you might even want to head down the short way into Golden to spend a day in this premier destination on B.C.’s Powder Highway. At most heli-ski operations, where guests are flown into a lodge, non-skiers are confined to the lodge and surroundings. But our unique drive-in access comes in quite handy here, and we can easily get you to Golden, a quintessential Kootenays mountain town shaped by adventure and wilderness with endless opportunities to spend your time. Go dog sledding among snow-covered ancient cedars. Visit the wolf sanctuary. Go on a guided snowmobile tour. Sample the craft beer at Whitetooth Brewery. Or maybe you’d like to take a ski lesson at Kicking Horse Mountain Resort, and ride the gondola up for a five-star lunch at the Eagle Eye restaurant. Our staff will organize and execute everything for you.
No matter what non-skiers choose to do with your time (relax at the lodge, choose your own adventure in town), it’s worth being there on our snowy downstairs patio when the skiers come off the helicopters in the late afternoon. The energy, joy and exhilaration after a day of heli-skiing is something that can only be shared in the present with your important people—recounting it later is simply never the same. And sharing stories of each of your days with appetizers and drinks at après, relaxing in the hot tub together to watch the sunset, and sharing conversation over our elegant, five-star dinners is an experience in itself that’s worth being together for.
So yes, bring your important people on this adventure with you. Whether you all heli-ski or not, we’re in the business of Best Days Ever. And we believe those days should be shared.
