Our partnership with Arc’teryx began almost 20 years ago, when we became the first heli-skiing company to partner with the brand. Since then, Arc’teryx has become the standard choice across the industry due to its reputation for making such great gear.
Originally named Rock Solid, Arc’teryx began in the late 1980s as a brand geared towards rock climbing. The name was changed to Arc’teryx in 1991, and is a shortened version of the word Archaeopteryx, which was the first bird to evolve from a dinosaur. The Arc’teryx logo is a representation of a fossil of this oldest-known bird. The company states that their name and logo “represents the idea of accelerating evolution, helping to drive human progression in the outdoors.”
Arc’teryx began in the Coast Mountains in BC, an area known for its wild weather and huge amounts of precipitation year-round. Their manufacturing facility, known as Arc’one, is located in Vancouver, BC. This means that designers are able to test the products in the nearby Coast Mountains, and it is the reason that Arc’teryx is well-known for balancing durability against harsh mountain environments, minimalist design necessary for ease of use, and lightweight characteristics for long days in the mountains.
