BREAKING HELISKIING NEWS:

Great Canadian Heli-Skiing’s Head Guide Greg Golovach just radio’d the office to say we have had 76cm (30in) out of this storm so far!!!!

He said they weren’t walking on the helicopter landing pad, they were swimming in it! YAHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

Looking to heliski POW? Well it’s here! La Niña, Ullr and Santa Claus have gotten together and have given us the best gift of all: POWDER!

Heliskiing deep powder snow at Great Canadian Heli-Skiing

Heliskiing deep powder snow at Great Canadian Heli-Skiing.

We had +30 cm (12 in) in our heliskiing terrain yesterday and the forecast is call for a lot more this week. We feel the pain of those of you in snow deprived regions, especially Tahoe, Utah, Colorado where there usually is a lot of snow. But all is not lost! Come heli skiing in Canada to get your powder fix. We still have some limited availability.

Call us with your preferred dates. Here are some days where we have a few seats open (start on any day in the date range);

  • 2nd week of January if your group is 4 or more
  • January 26 — Feb 2
  • February 10 — 17
  • March 10 — 16
  • March 24 — April 6

Don’t forget that you can come for 2, 3, 4, 5 or +6 days and start ANY day of the week for some amazing helicopter skiing. Even if your preferred dates aren’t listed above, call us to see if we can fit you in.

The Heli Skiing Season Kicks Off This Week!

Our first official group arrived on Tuesday. However, last week a lucky few got to sample the awesome conditions. Head Heliski Guide ‘GG’ said that they were getting faceshots most of the day. The conditions were so good a couple of the group have booked to come again at the end of this week!

Not only did our first group of guests arrived last night, but our favourite photographer, Jordan Manley, and his crew arrived to capture the conditions. You will notice the vast majority of the photos in our brochure and in the lodge were taken by Jordan. We’ve been super stoked this year as some of Jordan’s shots from Great Canadian have been used in Powder Magazine, SKIING, Ski+Board etc.

Accompanying Jordan to do some video-ing is Anthony Bonello of BigLines.com fame (as well as writing for SBC Skier, Swedish ski mag Aka Skidor, Powder Magazine, the Ski Journal etc). Rounding out the team are athletes Dave “Little Air” Treadway and Tessa Treadway. Peak Performance skier Dave is a pro whose photos have appeared in every magazine you could imagine. Tessa, also skiing for Peak Performance, is a coach for Girls Do Ski, a group that promotes skiing to women by way of 2 day clinics at Red Mountain, Kicking Horse Mountain Resort and Revelstoke Mountain Resort. If you’ve been wanting to come heliskiing but are hesitant about your ability, these clinics are a great way to get prepared for a heliskiing trip! Check out their website.

What’s For Dinner Chef Dan?

As our repeat guests know, the food at Great Canadian Heli-Skiing is almost as good as the powder skiing! Chef Dan has been with us for the last 6 seasons and this year he has created another exciting menu to perfectly cap off a great day of heliskiing!

New heliskiing products available in our retail shop
Check out some of our new products! Our Business Manager Deane, Head Chef Dan and Lodge Manager Carrie are modelling new jackets from Arc’teryx Equipment (the Atom) and our very cool Buffs i.e. neck gaitors. All can be purchased from our retail shop!

I was privy to a sneak peak of his menu, and boy, guests this winter are in for a treat! Here’s what to expect on Monday nights (dates may change):5 Course Wine Pairing Dinner with a Fashion Show! Our lovely lodge staff will be modelling a few pieces of some cool technical ski wear available in our shop while strutting their stuff to some fun music. They will then serve a delicious 5 course meal starting off with a Beetroot and Blue Ermite Cheese Salad, followed by Atlantic Canada Lobster Ravioli, Cranberry Vodka Granite, Duck Confit and White Bean Cassoulet and to finish off, Croissant Bread and Butter Pudding accompanied by a dark chocolate drizzle. Yummmm. Each course will be paired with a wine that complements that course’s flavours. I’m suddenly very hungry…..

Heli-skiing: it’s worth it!

Just came across an article from the Vancouver Sun about helicopter skiing. The writer gives a nice description on why you should go heliskiing in Canada despite any financial or ability inhibitions you may have.  However we had to laugh with the choice of photos….the article is about heliskiing around Whistler, yet they use a photo shot with us (Great Canadian Heli-Skiing) which is about 9 hours inland (drier snow!). :)

Here’s the article: http://www.vancouversun.com/travel/Heli+skiing+worth/5859792/story.html
