Check Out La Niña's Effect on Great Canadian Heli-Skiing

4 Per Group  -  Unlimited Vertical  -  Convenient Location  -  Average 2 Down Days A Year

Hi Skiers and Boarders!

"Check Out La Niña's Stats For Great Canadian Heli-Skiing! It's DEEP!"

SNOW, SNOW, SNOW! As I type this newsletter here in the BC interior, the snow is coming down hard and has done so for the last couple of days!

The experts are saying that we will be experiencing a strong La Niña winter this year (source here)! It will be one of those "you should have been there" winters! This is the 1 winter that Warren Miller's famous "If you don't do it this year, you will be one year older when you do" should NOT apply because if you choose not to heliski this winter you could re-write that to say "If you don't do it this La Niña year, you're going to regret it for the rest of your life!!"

So how will La Niña DIRECTLY affect us at Great Canadian?

It's simple math:

Email of our last La Niña

Here's an email we sent out in January during the
last La Niña we had. A sign of things to come?

To see La Niña's direct effect we looked at those years that had moderate and strong La Niña's, then referenced that with snowfall totals collected by Environment Canada. If you like snow, you'll love these stats.

La Niña snowfall history for GCH

The Mt Fidelity annual average of 14 metres (46 feet) is pretty amazing, but since the experts are saying this is a strong La Niña, hopefully we will have a winter like 1973/74 or 1998/99 when we had 18.5 metres (61 feet)! Of course there are a few places like the Coast Mountains that also get large amounts of snow, but in the interior of BC we get the super dry fluffy "champagne powder" type of snow... snow that you can really sink into.

Our Region Is Expect To Receive 125-150% Of Our Average Snowfall

According to an article on Skinet (click here) British Columbia and several US states near the Canada/US border usually receive 25-50% more snow in a La Niña winter. But not every region benefits as much as we do. Colorado, Utah, California and northern New England receive their average annual snowfall with a few exceptions.

Another good indicator of the increase in snowfall during a La Niña winter can be found when looking at nearby ski resorts.

So what does this all mean? It means you should finally book that a heli-skiing trip and join us this winter for some amazing skiing conditions! Give us a call (1-888-424-4354)!

The Perfect Holiday Gift: Great Canadian and La Nina Powder!

The December holiday period is an amazing time to spend with family and friends. Imagine how much fun it would be to spend it all together and heli-skiing? If you have teenage kids this is a good way to convince them to join you! We still have some seats available from December 26th.

It's not just the kids that need spoiling! What about your good friends and/or loved ones? We've had quite a few inquiries from people who have wanted to spoil their partners by getting them every skiers/boarders dream: a heli-skiing trip! Just the other day someone called us and said "My wife is a keen skier and has always wanted to go heli-skiing, so I'd like to get her a trip." Now isn't that an awesome husband ladies?!

By going heli-skiing together, you and your partner (or friends) can spend quality time together in an amazing winter wonderland that you will talk about for years to come. If you would like to surprise your partner with some heli-skiing, we can send you a gift certificate to present to them.

NEW SKI FLEET! — La Nina Approved!

''yeah bro cool dude'' video on Armada skis

Last winter we demo'ed a couple of different skis and by far the most popular were the Armada JJs. In fact, they proved so popular that they are our new fleet ski and quite a few of our guiding team have bought a pair for themselves! You know if they guides want them then they must be good!

As mentioned, with La Nina this year, we are expecting tons of snow and the JJs will help you ski it with ease. Our guests have been amazed at how proficient they become in powder in very little time.
