TIM: The Video Is A Must-See! Click for more info.
We had pro skiers Daryl Treadway & Leah Evans join us last week for some superb skiing. On hand to capture the moment was photographer extraordinaire Jordan Manley & amazing videographer Jamie Bond, founder of Doglotion.com - Freeskiing Web Mag. Jamie & Jordan created this great video from last week....and there's more video & photos to come that will blow your mind.
View the video here.
TIM: Get Here NOW!! It's About To Dump!
AWESOME!! You need to get here NOW as there's 2-3 FEET forecast for the rest of the week. La Nina is strutting her stuff .... and it's white, fluffy and plentiful!

Tim: There's a new article on cat-skiing and heli-skiing at Great Canadian.

Chatter Creek. Photo by Dylan Page
There's a great new article on cat-skiing at nearby Chatter Creek and heli-skiing with us at Great Canadian Heli-Skiing. Author Bernard Krieger visited the Golden/Revelstoke region this past March and sampled one of our exciting packages: a combination tour that includes several days of cat-skiing at Chatter Creek with several days of heli-skiing at Great Canadian. For more on the Combos click above on "Packages" and then "Heli & Resort/Catskiing".
TW: Yup, It's A La Niña Winter, So What Does It Mean For GCH? POWDER And Lots of It!
If you have ever thought about heli-skiing, this is the winter to do it. With experts claiming it will probably be a strong La Niña winter, we should receive more than the huge amount of snow we already get!
There is a lot of generalizations out there as to the affects of La Niña, however we are much more interested in how it affects use at Great Canadian. So we did some research and looked at actual data collected by Environment Canada and came up with some very exciting conclusions. To have a read what we found out and why this winter is going to be epic, check out our latest newsletter here. If you currently do not receive our newsletter, sign up!

Činit tebe mluvit Čech? Někdy dívat se na tato obrázkový terminál! And yes, I'm moving my arms around too much when I snowboard!! youtube.com/watch?v=pBTm6gO-adM
TW: It's snowed here in Golden, BC!
SNOW!! It's still summer and we've already had a good dusting on the mountain tops. Obviously it is way early and the snow will melt, but maybe it's a good sign that it is going to be an El Nino winter like the government weather guys are predicting!! Check out the photos from Kicking Horse Mountain Resort: photos
Tim: GCH Selects New Avalanche Transceiver
BCA Tracker2 (2⁄3 scale)
One of Great Canadian Heli-Skiing's Lead Guides and our Operations Manager, Rob Dalinghaus, recently spent a fair bit of time researching the various types of avalanche transceivers on the market today.
Rob knew that the ideal choice would be a beacon that was very accurate, yet simple to use. To that end, he opted for the Tracker2 from Backcountry Access. The Tracker2 actually has THREE antenna, making searching that much faster and accurate.
Backcountry Access are renowned leaders and pioneers in snow safety. In fact, they spend more money on research than they do on marketing their products! Like here at Great Canadian, safety is the #1 priority at Backcountry Access before anything else. BCA supply many reputable heli-skiing operations and ski patrols with their safety products.
For technical details on the Tracker2, go here
Tim: Cool new video from one of our clients from this past February!
Check out our Video section for an awesome video sent in from one of our guests, Mark Caines, who visited us this past February with some friends from the UK (Richard, Phil, Mark, Andy and Vicky). Nice work Mark!

Tim: Watch It Now: Great Canadian Heli-Skiing On Television
The Ride Guide, the ski and snowboard TV show that is shown in 60 countries and 60 million households paid us a visit in January in order to film the amazing conditions and terrain in our vast tenure.
The show features local Golden boy Justin Baun and Leah Evans from Rossland, BC. In the summer Justin fights fires and in winter he rides for the Ride Guide. Leah competes in international free-skiing competitions and manages her own company: www.girlsdoski.com. Girls Do Ski offers 2 day camps for women interested in improving their skiing and who want to learn to ski the whole mountain, not just the groomers. Its a perfect way to warm up for heli-skiing! For a short article on the trip go here.
You can watch the 2 part episode on our Facebook page (sign up and become a GCH fan!) or on our YouTube channel
Tim: In about a week's time a Ride Guide episode will feature Great Canadian Heli-Skiing!

Exciting news: the Ride Guide episode featuring GCH & Chatter Creek will air in about a week's time. Kevin, executive producer said: "This episode will be up on Shaw VOD within a week or so. Next to roll out will be Rogers VOD in Eastern Canada. This episode will premiere in the USA on the new Outside Television, Out...side Magazine's new TV channel." You beauty! I'll keep you updated with further airtimes.

Tim: Visiting pro-skiers impressed by terrain and guide's safety and knowledge
Pro-Skier KC Deane was one of the athletes filming with photographer Grant Gunderson (see below) who visited us several weeks ago. He posted about his experience with skiing with us on the Evo Gear website.
Even though you might not be a pro-skier, I'm sure you can relate to KC's excitement about going up in a heli to get to up to untracked slopes with our highly qualified and extremely experienced guides. Check out KC's blog here.
Tim: Grant Gunderson, pro-photographer and photo editor of the awesome The Ski Journal, was at Great Canadian Heli-Skiing to take some photos
Grant Gunderson, pro-photographer and photo editor of the awesome The Ski Journal, was at Great Canadian Heli-Skiing to take some photos to enter the Cold Smoke Powder Fest photo competition.
"Gunny" got some great shots and ended up in second place! Nice job Grant! To check out his slideshow with some photos taken in our terrain click here .

Tim:
It's currently puking and we've had at least 25 cm in the mountains on top of about 15 cm yesterday! Then it should clear for the weekend and then the next storm hits! Winter is BACK!
Tim: Oh yeah, more snow in the next couple of days
The skiing during the past few days has been fantastic with well over a foot since the start of the week. Starting this afternoon, the forecast is calling for at least another foot in the next 48 hours; snow-forecast.com/resorts/GC-HeliSki/6day/mid.
Tim:
The Ultimate Ski Bum contest was a competition organised by Kootenay Tourism (our regional tourism association) that promotes the “Powder Highway” a joint marketing venture between ski resorts, cat-skiing and heliskiing operations in the area.
The person who made the best “Why I’m the Ultimate Ski Bum” video was the extremely lucky recipient of free skiing all winter long with unlimited resort skiing at places like Kicking Horse, Revelstoke, Red Mountain, Fernie, etc and the coolest part: 1 free day of heliskiing at all the different cat and heliskiing operations in the region.
A 2nd generation Aspen/Sun Valley ski bum, Chris -˜Tats’ Tatsuno won the competition with this video.
Tats visited us last week for a day and had a blast! In fact, he racked up 14 powder filled runs! Maybe he should of visited us last as we may have spoiled him!!
Tats took some time off his busy schedule to file this trip report: Ultimate Ski Bum Trip Report
Tim: New video, what are the conditions and how much vertical are we skiing?
Hi everyone!
Wow, we've had an awesome past couple of weeks and it's still going on! I knew we hadn't received any new BIG dumps for awhile, so I thought it would be prudent to go out and do some product testing. Weeelllll I was very pleasantly surprised!
I joined some super fun guests from the Czech republic and we were skiing about 15-20cm of fresh powder and it was awesome! We managed to ski 14 runs and did 9,400 metres (30,840 feet)! The day before they skied 16 runs!
If you'd like to check out some recent video footage of our guests check out our YouTube page.
Tim: Under Sunny Blue Skies One Group Skied 34,284ft Yesterday!

Bluebird conditions this week.
Ahhh the benefits of Unlimited Vertical! With operations that 'clock' vertical and make you pay extra for skiing more, you are always concerned about how much you ski and often lose track of just simply enjoying skiing! Heliskiing should be about quality, not quantity. Clocking vertical and posting it in the lodge creates competition and animosity..... who wants that when they are on vacation?
With Unlimited Vertical you just ski to your heart's content (well, more likely your legs, not your heart).
Still, some people like to know how much they've skied. Just yesterday we had a group ski 10,450m (or 34,284ft) in 1 day! Not bad eh? There's no dragging out the day here!
Tim: We've just received an awesome new heliskiing video from when the Treadway brothers were here!

Yup, it's DEEEEEEP! Dave Treadway
in need of a snorkel!
Photo: Jordan Manley.
I think Jamie from DogLotion.com describes his visit best when on the DogLotion website he said:
"There's alot of hype surrounding New Years. Each year you try to out-do the last, but every now and again there's a stand-out year that may never be surpassed. After ushering in 2010 with three days of heli skiing at Great Canadian Heli-Skiing, we're pretty sure New Years will never be as good.
Photographer Jordan Manley and bro skiers Dave Treadway & Dan Treadway left the pow behind at Whistler and Kicking Horse to sample the goods that Great Canadian Heli-Skiing, wondering just what we were in store for. Knowing little about the operation in advance, we didn’t know what we were getting into, especially with the snowy forecast ahead. It’s safe to say we were pleasantly surprised, or dare I say, blown away?
What we didn’t know before the trip became plenty apparent during the trip... that GCH was the first boutique heli operation (small groups), their tenure is amazing, steeps/cliffs/gullies/pillows abound, they can fly and ski on storm days, and access is like no other... 100 meters off the highway!
We’ll let the above images and video do the talking, and leave the rest up to your imagination if there’s any left. And if you really want to know what its like, there’s one pretty obvious way to find out”.
Jamie has also put together a great "Multimedia Essay" on the trip. You can find that here: http://www.doglotion.com/essays/ushering-new-year-great-canadian-heli-skiing.
For more “extreme” footage of their stay, check out DogLotion here: http://video.doglotion.com/node/31912
Thanks Jamie, Jordan, Dan and Dave!
Tim: Powder Powder Powder Powder Powder
Just got word from the guides that it's absolutely dumping down at the lodge....at least 70cm in the past 72 hours and currently snowing 2-3cm an hour, with a lot more in the forecast!
Tim: Pros get DEEP in powder: check out the amazing video and pics
This past week we were fortunate enough to host pro-skiers Dan Treadway and Dave Treadway and one of the hottest ski photographers out there, Jordan Manley. Rounding out the crew was Jamie Bond, founder of the popular freeskiing website DogLotion.com. Jamie is pretty handy with a camera too!
In order to increase our photo library we invited Jordan and his crew to take some photos and they, along with the conditions, blew us all away! With a snow base of 3 metres (almost 10ft) conditions where amazing, allowing the prowess and skills of the Treadway brothers to shine through. As you can see by the photos, Jordan is as good with the camera as the Treadways are on skis! Have you seen the latest issue of Skiing Magazine? Jordan shot the cover, in addition to many other publications such as Powder, Ski, Skier etc.
Not only a master of still shots, Jordan has a talent with video and post production. Check out the cool 1 minute 44 second video he (and Jamie Bond) shot in between stills.
Pro skiers and photographers are usually very well traveled and have visited many cool places. So when they sing your praises you know you are doing something right! Here’s a few quotes from Dan, Dave, Jordan and Jamie;
“Everything awesome, expectations were well exceeded! You guys have some amazing terrain. Paddy was a really great guide and got us to the goods” and “Stunning terrain, deep yet stable blower powder, and warm hospitality made for a fantastic New Years” — Jordan Manley
“Thanks again for the great trip and hospitality. As Jordan mentioned we were all really impressed with the terrain and the operation as a whole. Three thumbs up” — Jamie Bond
Bringing in the New Year at Great Canadian Heli Skiing from Jordan Manley Photography.
There was no better way to salute 2009 and usher in 2010 than by visiting Great Canadian Heli Skiing at Rogers Pass, BC for a 3 day photo shoot. I was joined by Jamie Bond from Doglotion.com, and Dave and Dan Treadway. Stunning terrain, deep yet stable blower powder, and warm hospitality made for a fantastic New Years.
Jordan Manley shot this video between shooting stills; however additional footage in this video is by Jamie Bond.

On his way back to the Coastal Mountains Dave Treadway stopped off in Revelstoke for a ski and said “It was great skiing, but man did I feel like a spoiled brat. “Oh, there’s some other tracks” or “that was only a 1000 vertical ft run” were thoughts running through my head. After getting it as good as we did at GCH, it’s sure hard skiing the hill, even on a good day. Thanks again for the awesome time, and treating us to some of your white fluffy champagne”.
On his blog, Dan Treadway said “My brother Dave, Jordan Manley and I spent the last 2 days of 09 in some of the deepest snow possible at Great Canadian Heliskiing. The terrain these guys have is amazing. A good chunk of their tenure that we saw has been burnt by forest fires so the trees are perfectly spaced and with no needles on them you can see way in front of you. They also have some of the best pillow lines I’ve ever seen”.
Not bad feedback eh?
Keep an eye on our homepage, our Facebook page, plus Jordan’s website and DogLotion.com for more photos and video! I’ll also have a bit of a write up in our next e-newsletter, so if you haven’t been heli-skiing with us, please ask us to add you to our email database. You’ll see for yourself that conditions demand that you ski with us this winter!! And if I can twist Warren Miller’s words, “if you don’t ski with us this year, you’ll be a year older kicking yourself you didn’t!!”
